The green31.net project began with a public issues summit on responding to global warming in April, 2008. There 100 citizens came together to deliberate on responding to the issue. They were provided a brief issue sheet for use in their deliberations. This issue sheet has been refined and expanded (in part based on feedback from the summit) to a full issue book for deliberation. The format is very similar to the brief issue guides developed for the National Issues Forums. The issue book lays out three fundamentally different perspectives on how we should respond to the problem of climate change, presenting the arguments for and against each perspective.
The issue book is available for downloading as a PDF file. Feel free to duplicate it and use it for non-commercial purposes. Contact Bill Ball (ball@tcnj.edu) if you would like assistance in organizing a forum using this issue book.
A number of deliberative forum organizers have also inquired about how the public issues summits are conducted at TCNJ. Information on the April 2008 summit can be found here. A complete collection of documents used in the summit can be found here (pdf).
